Trinidad & Tobago

Message from the General Manager

Errol Leblanc | Trinidad & Tobago

Courts (Trinidad) Ltd., now Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd. (UTL), was acquired by the Unicomer Group in December 2006 as part of the Courts Caribbean business.  This was highly anticipated as it brought closure to a two year period of uncertainty during which the Administrators were in a “holding pattern”.

The intention was to initially focus on integrating the businesses and then to aggressively grow the UTL business.  However, with the global recession in 2008, the focus was switched to one of consolidation and riding out the bad times.  This was the pattern in the Financial Years ended 2010 and 2011.  Significant growth was experienced during the Financial Year ended 2012.

Overall, during the six years since becoming a member of the Unicomer Group, UTL has experienced growth in both Sales and Market Share.

Courts remains the number one retail brand in Trinidad and Lucky Dollar is slowly establishing itself among its target base.

Since becoming a member of the Unicomer Group there has been improvement in Distribution, Technical Service and Branch Retail Operations. In addition, there is a more strategic approach to Marketing and Credit.  The sharing of ideas (both successes and failures) with colleagues from Unicomer Latin America, as well as the Caribbean, has led to significant improvement in UTL’s business.

The Management teams from both Regions collaborate well together and overall it has been a good fit.
